An Ingham County judge heard arguments Monday, Jan. 27, on Attorney General Dana Nessel’s lawsuit against Enbridge.
The original lawsuit -- filed by Nessel -- claims Line 5 is aging and poses a serious danger to the health of the Great Lakes if it were to rupture.
Because of that, the state argues it should be shut down.

The case was initially heard in front of a state court. Enbridge filed an appeal, arguing the case should be heard in federal court, but that appeal was rejected and the case is now moving forward in state court.
A judge will issue a decision at a later date.
