Man killed when his vehicle loses control in snow and ice, Emmet Co. deputies say

EMMET COUNTY — On Tuesday, Dec. 3 around 9:15 a.m., Emmet County Sheriff’s Office deputies, along with the Michigan State Police, were sent to a traffic crash on US-131 south of Howard Road in Bear Creek Township.

The crash investigation at the scene concluded a 2007 Chevrolet Silverado pickup truck, driven by a 69-year-old man from East Jordan, was going south on US-131 when it lost control due to snowy/icy roadways, deputies said.

The pickup entered into the northbound lane of travel, where it was hit by a 2018 Freightliner semi-truck, driven by a 41-year-old man from Sears, officials said.

Names of those involved in this accident are being withheld at this time until the families of those involved can be notified.

Alcohol or intoxication does not appear to be a factor in the crash, deputies said.

Emmet County Sheriff’s Office deputies were assisted at the scene by Michigan State Police Gaylord Post, Michigan State Police Motor Carrier Division, Little Traverse Bay Band Tribal Police, Resort-Bear Creek Fire Department, Emmet County EMS and the Emmet County Road Commission.
