Students are out of school for the summer, and many are staying busy at camps.
One camp in Ludington is taking students to new heights at the Plainwell Aviation and Stem Academy camp at the Mason County Airport.
“The kids fly for half the day in our airplane, and the other half of the day, we do aviation activities from learning the basics of flight communication, navigation, and what it takes to have a career in the STEM fields,” said Ginger DeVillers CEO of Plainwell aviation and Stem Academy.
The Zonta Club of Ludington Area sponsored two girls with interest in aviation.
“Zonta International has a long history of an interest in aviation for women. Amelia Earhart was one of the early members of Zonta,” said Patty Johnson, President of Zonta Club of Ludington Area.
“I want to be a pilot. I want to go into commercial flying, and this seemed like a good way to get into it,” added Alexis Kalchik participating in the camp.
“I learned about controls. Like, there are a lot of things in the airplane that I’m learning, where I would have just looked at them and been like, I don’t know what that does,” added Adalyn Vandusen, participating in the camp.
For both girls being able to fly has been the best part.
