New Hotel Could be Coming to Traverse City’s Warehouse District

New Hotel Could be Coming to Traverse City's Warehouse District - New Hotel Could be Coming to Traverse City's Warehouse District

Another hotel could be on the way to the Warehouse District in Traverse City after Planning Commissioners approved plans Tuesday.

Commissioners OK’d plans for a new four-story, 99-guest room Marriott hotel. The plans now go to the city commission to decide on.

Developer Jeff Schmitz, who built Hotel Indigo in 2017, is working on the proposed project that sits right next door. He operated and ran Hotel Indigo for three years before he sold it.

“I said I would never do another one, and then this property became available, and I thought, I’m going to do it again, but this time I think I can do it better and more efficient,” Schmitz explains. “So, all the things I didn’t do at the Hotel Indigo site, I think I’ve learned my lesson and we’re going to do it better now at this site.”

The proposed hotel will be in the Warehouse District and feature a rooftop bar as well as a restaurant. It will also feature a spa and boutique as well as a fitness center that will be open for guests and the community. While some commissioners at Tuesday’s meeting were concerned about parking, most look forward to the plan.

While the proposed project still has to be voted on by the city commission, Schmitz says he’s excited to see the progress made in the Warehouse District and hopes to continue it.

“When you look at 2017, I was the first developer in here at the Warehouse District. Seeing everything that’s going on here, and everything that’s been built around. I might now be the last developer here in the Warehouse District now,” Schmitz laughs.
