The Clare County Sheriff’s Mounted Division is mourning one of their own.
Deputy Nichole Shuff was taken off of life support early Friday evening.
Jesse Loudenslager is Captain of the Clare County Sheriff’s Mounted Division and says, “She just had a vibrant energy for anybody that ever knew her, and was around her and everything that she did she always put a positive spin on it.”
On Friday, more than 60 officers lined the hospital halls in Midland to say goodbye to Deputy Nichole Shuff.
“You never know what’s going to happen. I have fallen off horses or been thrown over the front of them. That’s not what happened here,” says Clare County Sheriff John Wilson.
On Monday, Deputy Shuff was patrolling the Clare County Fairgrounds when she responded to a medical emergency— and wound up in one of her own.
Loudenslager says, “Unfortunately, the horse fell. It did not fall on her, tried to stay away from her. And was just an unfortunate accident.”
Loudenslager says Shuff was always first at lending hand.
“Anytime there was an injury of any kind, she was always there to help always there to take care of somebody and just would go out of her way to, to help,” said Loudenslager.
Deputy Shuff’s injuries forced her to be put on life support earlier this week and on Friday night her family and friends made the decision no one wants to face.
Although, Clare County Sheriff John Wilson says Deputy Shuff was an organ donor and isn’t done giving back quite yet.
“If anything’s going to come out of this, it’s that somebody is going to live because she died,” says Sheriff Wilson.
Their Mounted Division is now leading life through deputy Shuff’s motto.
“Remember her as a person that was vibrant and full of life and living life to its fullest, just taken too soon,” says Loudenslager.
The Clare County Sheriff’s Mounted Division says the decision was already made to retire Deputy Shuff’s horse, Ringo, at the end of this season.
They say there will be ceremonies to honor both deputy Shuff and Ringo to follow.
To continue following the division as they heal, for their page.
