Hofbrau Steakhouse in Interlochen is celebrating Saint Patrick’s Day in a unique way. They are attempting to create the largest Irish coffee every made.

Maxwell Mcallister, the General Manager at Hofbrau, says it’s as much self-indulgence as it is anything else.

“I always wanted to be in the Guinness Book of World Records and kind of got a form to do it and should just be a heck of a time and a heck of a party,” Mcallister says.

The concoction is made up of nearly 70 gallons of Irish whiskey and cream as well as 412 gallons of coffee and 190 pounds of brown sugar. For those counting, that’s 550 gallons of Irish coffee.

“Took a lot of favors that’s for sure. Higher Grounds is hooking it up and Pioneer Sugar and Tullamore Dew really making it possible for us,” Mcallister explains.

Ryan Prokos, and employee at Hofbrau, says it took a lot of work to get where they are.

“It’s been about a good two, three months of planning. A good month just getting stuff together. A lot of generous donations and people helping us out,” Prokos states. “If it wasn’t for the fabrication shop and higher grounds reaching out to us as we reached out to them, it would be way more difficult to do that,” Prokos continues.

Janet Brainard is a former employee at the Hofbrau. She says she was on her way to the store when she saw the big mug out front. She said she had to stop by to get pictures.

“This is great, just great. And I can’t wait, I can not wait to see what is going to happen,” Brainard announces.

With all the ingredients and effort that has gone in over the past few months, they say they just hope everyone has a good time.

“I really just hope that we have a lot of fun. We put a lot of work into this thing and it’s time to have fun. Hangout get some people in here, meet some new people. And really it’s just about that, it’s about celebrating, having fun and being with family,” Prokos says.
