CCTC Looking to Hire More Drivers

The shortage of staff continues to affect businesses across northern Michigan, including much needed transportation.

On Monday, the Clare County Transit Corporation (CCTC) said they would have to reduce service for the remainder of the week because of staff illnesses.

The Transit Corporation says they have 18 drivers, with some being substitutes.

Director Tom Prinstill said they are back to normal when it comes to scheduling rides, but they can always use more drivers.

“They’re getting tired like everybody else,” says Prinstill. “You have to pick up slack. Thankful for us, they are dedicated and there’ll always be a bus as much as we can make it available to people.”

Prinstill said when they do have fewer drivers, the disruption of services can change when people are scheduled to ride.

“Somebody might have been scheduled for 10:00 that day and we had to move them to 2:00,” he said. “That’s why we ask for patience until we kind of get over the hump.”

CCTC has tried bringing in new applicants, including offering a $1,000 sign on bonus.

Those interested in applying can call the CCTC office at 989-539-1474.
