A Clare man faces charges for fleeing and eluding, unlawful driving away of an automobile, among other charges in Clare County, according to Michigan State Police.
On Oct. 21 at about 11 p.m., troopers from the Mt. Pleasant Post initiated a traffic stop on a car near Clare Avenue and Dover Road in Grant Township.
Troopers say after a brief contact with the driver, the driver fled the scene at high speeds.
Troopers, with help from the Clare County Sheriff’s Department, attempted to find the car with no results. They say further investigation that night revealed that the car had been stolen from a home near Harrison.
A joint investigation between Mt. Pleasant State Police Post and the Clare County Sheriff’s Office identified the driver as a 59-year-old Clare man, who had an outstanding warrant out of Clare County and a suspended driver’s license.
Troopers say the investigation was turned over to the Clare County Prosecutor’s Office, who authorized a felony warrant for the driver for unlawful driving away of an automobile, fleeing and eluding, and resisting and obstructing a police officer.
The Michigan State Police Sixth District Fugitive Team then joined the investigation.
On Wednesday at about 2 p.m., members of the Sixth District Fugitive Team observed the suspect at a home in Clare County, where he was arrested for his outstanding warrants.
Troopers say the stolen car was found at the home, and had been repainted and re-plated with another registration plate.
The car was seized along with its contents, which included approximately 3.4 grams of suspected meth, a SKS rifle, a .22 caliber rifle, hundreds of rounds of 7.62 ammunition, approximately 100 rounds of .22 ammunition, shotgun ammunition, body armor, two high capacity SKS magazines, and two high capacity .22 magazines.
Troopers say the man was lodged at the Clare County Jail and is pending arraignment on several additional charges.
