State and Bijou By The Bay Theaters Reopening This Friday

Traverse City’s State Theater and Bijou By The Bay Theater will be re-opening Friday after being closed for twenty months.

Both theaters will be showing classics such as ‘Monty Python and the Holy Grail,’ ‘Casablanca,’ ‘Singing In The Rain,’ ‘The Social Network,’ and ‘The Dark Knight.’

A new HVAC system has been installed in one of the theaters, and restorations were made to the State Theater after their basement flooded.

Additionally, both theaters will have coronavirus precautions in place. This includes: limited and socially distanced seating, theaters will only be at 25% capacity, patrons must bring a covid vaccine card and photo I.D., patrons must be fully masked during the movies, and patrons will have their temperature checked.

Both the State Theater and Bijou By The Bay Theater will only be open on the weekends with a matinee and evening show. However, the theaters will be open this Thanksgiving.

The State Theater will be showing ‘King Richard,’ and the Bijou By The Bay will be showing ‘Belfast.’

“We are lucky to be the stewards of a historic landmark in Northern Michigan, and so it makes us all really happy to reopen,” said Michael Moore, Founder of the Traverse City Film Festival.

All tickets this Friday, Saturday and Sunday are free. To get tickets for this weekend’s reopening,
