The Grand Traverse Regional Community Foundation has launched a new fund program to promote inclusion across the region.
The new Diversity, Equity, Inclusion Fund will provide grants to a wide variety of Black, Indigenous and LGBTQ groups to promote awareness and acceptance.
Grant applications will open up later this summer, with a deadline of Sept. 1.
From there, a committee will decide where funds go.
The Community Foundation says that by making everyone feel welcome, they’re also promoting a more diverse economy and workforce.
“A lot of times people don’t really think about diversity, equity, inclusion in the economic development context,” said David Mengebier, President and CEO of Grand Traverse Regional Community Foundation. “But if we’re gonna bring that talent here, we want to make sure we send a strong signal that Traverse City and communities beyond are welcoming communities.”
The Community Foundation has kicked off the fund with a $15,000 donation.
