Michigan health officials are reporting 6,709 new cases of the coronavirus and 17 additional COVID-19 deaths since Saturday.

Over the two days, Sunday and Monday, the average number of new confirmed cases is 3,354 per day.

Michigan has now had 184,889 total confirmed coronavirus cases and 7,357 COVID-19 deaths.

Saturday the state was at 121,093 confirmed cases with 7,340 deaths.

The Michigan Department of Health and Human Services is now providing weekly updates on the number of people who have recovered from COVID-19. These numbers will be updated every Saturday.

As of October 30, 178,180 are being reported as recovered in Michigan.

The state defines ‘recovered’ as the number of persons with a confirmed COVID-19 diagnosis who are alive 30 days post-onset (or referral date if onset is not available).

More than 9 million people in the U.S. have now been infected by the coronavirus. And more than 230, 000 have died, which is more than any other country.

In the U.S., 27 states broke records for daily infections over the last two weeks, including Michigan.

Starting Wednesday in New York, all out of town visitors will have to get a mandatory COVID-19 test, but there is no quarantine for now.

The former Food and Drug Administration commissioner, Dr. Scott Gottleib, believes winter will bring a tougher fight against the virus.

“I think December is probably going to be our toughest month, when you look at what is happening in states, you’re seeing accelerating spread,” Gottleib says.

The country is averaging 100,000 new COVID-19 cases per day.
