It's that time of year -- the lull between summer and winter tourist seasons.
Traverse City businesses are trying to weather this quiet time before business picks up again with the holidays. Right now, the cold weather has fewer people out and about downtown, and it can be a trying time for businesses. Some businesses are up and some are down from this time last year. Owners of Fustini's Oils & Vinegars say they're doing well in their second year on Front Street. They credit that success to building a loyal base in local customers. The transition seems to be tougher on restaurants. Serenity Tea Bar & Cafe says the competition with other restaurants is tough this time of year. Owners of Serenity tell us they trying out new marketing strategies and cutting hours while they look forward to the holidays and snow.
