DETROIT (AP) — The Detroit Red Wings have won at home in a shootout with San Jose, snapping the Sharks' six-game winning streak. Pavel Datsyuk and Henrik Zetterberg scored in the shootout last night to get Detroit the victory. Zetterberg also had a goal in regulation, and Chris Osgood made 33 saves.

DEKALB, Ill. (AP) — Eastern Michigan has been routed in a road game against Northern Illinois. The Eagles gave up a touchdown on the opening kickoff last night, and the Huskies went on to win 50-6. The puts Eastern Michigan at 0-9.

DETROIT (AP) — Right-hander Rick Porcello has been named the Detroit Tigers' rookie of the year. The Detroit Sports Broadcasters' Association picked the 20-year-old, who led all American League rookies with 14 wins in 2009. He had a 3.96 ERA and 89 strikeouts in his first season.

ALLEN PARK, Mich. (AP) — Detroit Lions running back Kevin Smith has returned to practice after sitting out Wednesday with a shoulder injury. Coach Jim Schwartz didn't indicate whether Smith will be available for Sunday's game at Seattle.
