Northern Michigan Man to Host Free “Introduction to Disc Golf” Clinic This Weekend

A Northern Michigan man with a passion for disc golf is offering a free “Introduction to Disc Golf” clinic on Saturday at Maple Grove Campground in Lake City. With the same rules and terminology as regular golf, disc golf is becoming more and more popular throughout the United States.

Chris Stronach, a local disc golf player, has been playing the sport for about six years… and he’s been hooked ever since. Now, he’s giving back to the community by teaching people of all ages about the unique sport.

“Disc golf for me is an escape,” Stronach said. “If I’m having a rough day, I’ll just go throw a disc as hard as I can. It has more benefits than just throwing plastic in the woods.”

Stronach said that in Michigan alone, they have over 500 courses. Since Stronach started playing six years ago, he said he’s donated over 100 discs to people who’ve wanted to learn.

“Saturday from twelve to two, we have a disc golf clinic and that is a totally free event any anybody who wants to come out, anybody from three to ninety-three years old can come check it out,” he said.

Professional disc golfer, Taylor Page from Traverse City will also be at the clinic to help teach people about the sport.

“There is a need for knowledge of disc golf in the community and disc golf is all about growing the sport.” 3:56 “We’re going to give people that knowledge to be able to get out on that course and somewhat know how to do it, and what they’re doing.”
